Which Candidate Should I Hire?

May 2021 Case of the Month

In an economic recession, there is bound to be more supplies than demands in terms of the employer-employee dynamic. This month we take a look from the perspective of the employer or business owner and find out how QiMen Forecasting can help them in choosing the right candidate.

Most of our articles are written from the point of view of the ‘victim’ so to speak. This month we change our perspective and take a look at things from the driver’s seat. Yes, we are looking from the perspective of the employer or business owner.

Choosing a right candidate for the job is crucial especially in these uncertain times, when there is a need to cut cost. With a surplus in the number of prospective employees, there are bound to be hard decisions to make.

But how does one determine which candidate to hire? An interview may not tell the whole story because it ultimately comes down to who is well-prepared. It does not actually offer an accurate gauge of one’s true personality, skills and capabilities.

In trying to determine who to hire from more than one candidate, QiMen Forecasting can be a fruitful tool as shown below.

Mr. C has interviewed several prospective candidates for a sales position in his company. He has narrowed the list down to three potentials. Unable to make up his mind, he resorted to using QiMen Forecasting to aid him in making the correct decision. The chart he plotted is shown above.

Now, as the ‘Asker’, Mr. C is represented by the Day stem of the chart (Ren). Thus, the Kun palace is the focal palace for comparison with the other palaces representing the three candidates.

Immediately we can see that Mr. C is a capable and multi-talented leader because of the Chief deity and the Heavenly Grass star in the Kun palace. The Rest Door in this palace indicates a peace-loving person capable of solving problems.

CANDIDATE 1

The first prospective candidate is represented by the Hour stem palace of this chart. The Hour stem palace is the Zhen palace. The Death Door in this palace is the first indication that this is not the right candidate as this individual’s growth and progress is hampered by a stagnated mindset.

Although the Heavenly Grass star does indicate a loyal and dedicated person; unfortunately, this person also doesn’t work well under pressure and likes to be in a comfort zone.

Adding in the Red Phoenix deity as well as the clashing elements of the Gui and Ding stems in the palace, and it is pretty clear that this person is very argumentative, prone to making gossips and may cause heated disputes among team members.

CANDIDATE 2

The second candidate was born in 1998 which is a Wu stem year. The Li palace in the QiMen chart is representative of this candidate. First off, this palace reinforces the Day stem palace thus indicating this candidate will provide the needed support for Mr. C.

The Open Door in this palace shows this person as a career-driven and work-oriented individual. This person is also sincere, righteous, proactive and possesses leadership qualities as indicated by the Nine Heaven deity.

The existence of the Heavenly Heart star implies that the candidate is an independent and caring individual but can be a bit impatient sometimes. The Wu stem in the palace produces the Xin stem which also bodes well for this individual’s productivity.

CANDIDATE 3

Candidate 3 was born in 1986 which is a Bing stem year. This candidate is represented in the QiMen chart by the Kan palace. The Delusion Door in this palace is indicative of a solitary and secretive person more suitable to office work rather than sales.

The Heavenly Assistant star does indicate that this individual is a pioneering person who is in turn insightful, inquisitive and can perform well under pressure. This person is also rather good in negotiation as implied by the Six Harmony deity but can be unpredictable and temperamental.

The Bing stem and the Ren stem in the palace implies some hostility and resistance to management but Mr. C is able to control the situation and put the person in their place because the Day stem palace counters this individual’s (Kan) palace.

Overall, the QiMen Forecasting result indicates that Candidate 2 is the most suitable for the sales position. Candidate 3 can be taken into consideration but will be more suitable for a finance or administrative role. Candidate 1 however, is not suitable at all for Mr. C’s company.

What happens if two or more of the candidates happen to be born in the year with the same stems? That is a case study for another time 😊
