It is said that if you work hard, put in effort in your responsibilities, you’ll be able to attain success.
Determination alone, however, is not enough. There are many people who are industrious in their career but they end up stagnating. If you find yourself in this circumstance, you should first identify what seems to be the problem.
In order to make progress in your career, you are going to need opportunities. Opportunities on the other hand is heavily dependent on your immediate surrounding. If you are in a toxic environment, there aren’t a lot of opportunities up for grabs. If you wish to confirm this, plot a QiMen Chart and see where Geng Metal is. If it is found together with Six Harmony, it’s people problem.
Perhaps your colleagues aren’t helpful, maybe your boss is unreasonably harsh towards you; whatever it is, the reason why you aren’t progressing in your career is that you don’t know how to handle petty people. The term itself sounds ugly for many, but that’s how it is. No matter where you go in life, there will always be office politics for as long as there are people.
Think of it as a game. There are rules to the game as well as winners and losers. As long as you know the rules and you play well, you’ll be able to win. Try to find out what the people in your working environment wants. If they want a no-nonsense attitude from you while you’re on the job, deliver just that. If they’re all about socializing and comradery on and off working hours, you participate.
Alternatively, you could just leave. In truth, one man’s poison is another man’s meat. If you are not progressing where you are, it’s simply a mismatch of energy. You either change yourself to adapt to the environment better or find a new surrounding that complements who you are as a person. It’s all about being the right person at the right place.
