Business negotiations in the new norm might take some getting use to. Meetings are increasingly being conducted via video conferencing and online meeting platforms such as Zoom. Ironically, this may have an added advantage for those well-versed in Qi Men Dun Jia.
Only a couple of months ago, we are still having boardroom meetings and face-to-face appointments with potential clients and business partners. Little did we expect our lives to be so thoroughly upended in several months’ time span, by a pandemic, of all things.
Now most meetings, whether internal company meetings or meetings with business clients, are conducted online. There are all these online meeting platforms like Zoom and Google Meet replacing face-to-face meetings that we were so used to previously.
It may take a lot of getting use to particularly in business negotiations. Face-to-face meetings are so important because we can be up close and personal with the opposite party to build up a rapport and connection. To show each other that we are real and committed.
Now that everything is done online with a screen separating all of us, the distance between us has increased ever further. Through the computer or laptop screen, we can only see what the other party wants us to see. Some advantages of trust and confidence in each other may have already been lost, making it more difficult to successfully achieve a deal.
However, from the QiMen Dun Jia perspective, conducting business negotiations online in the new norm may instead have a bigger advantage compared to before the new norm.
