According to Chinese myth, a complex figure by the name of Chi You (蚩尤) had become the leader of the Nine Li tribe and he was held by many to have been a tyrannical leader. The mythical Yellow Emperor, or Huang Di (黃帝), had attempted to face Chi You in battle and nine times he walked away defeated. When he feared that all hope was lost, the Goddess of the Nine Heavens (九天玄女) came to him and bestowed upon him the knowledge of Qi Men Dun Jia.
