The Grass is Greener Where You Water It

Find out the major things to consider before changing jobs.

Man seeks success on the other side of the fence.
We have all heard the saying, “The grass isn't always greener on the other side.”

What this essentially means is that the metaphorical pasture you’re dreaming of is usually just as brown as the one you’re in. We are sometimes jaded by where we stand particularly on the career front. Statistics show that millennials have the tendency to change jobs every two years. Although it is good to get as much experience as one can get to climb the corporate ladder, sometimes changing jobs too soon may work to your detriment and the murky grass you think you are in, may be even murkier on the other side.

Before you take the plunge, here are three things to consider:

1. Running away (changing jobs) is never the answer
pros-and-cons

Every job and employer has its pros and cons. You may be leaving one problem, but you’ll always be faced with another. Sometimes, the best development opportunity is to learn to address the challenges at hand. Facing challenges help you build resilience and sharpen your problem-solving skills.

2. Corporate Culture

Perhaps before taking on a new job, observe the environment of what you may be moving into. Do some research on the management style you may be subjected to. Will you be able to communicate openly with various levels of management? Is the environment collaborative? It is important that the company’s corporate culture is the right fit for you

3. Benefits and Perks

Money shouldn’t be the only factor in an employment decision. Although you’d be taking home a bigger salary, there are other considerations as well. Accepting a job that offers more cash but less generous employee benefits — like health and benefits is a mistake. It’s important to take the time to review what you’re offered to make sure it’s what you need.

On another spectrum, QiMen may sometimes also give you some insight on what to expect in a possible new working environment. When a chart is cast, there are several possible outcomes. One outcome of interest would be when the Open Door sits with the Chief Deity. This is positive forecast for any new employee and indicates that this person will engage with a benevolent and wise management as well as polite and well-mannered co-workers on most fronts. This will certainly lead the way to making the potential new employee feel at home and reaching their full potential.

Ultimately you deserve an amazing work life, because we all spend far too much time of our life working – thus we better enjoy what we do. It’s important to evaluate all aspects of work and life to understand what needs to be fixed to make you happy.
